The pre-flight five
Before every trip
- Confirm the spend cap is on (free, in-app).
- Read your plan's roaming screen — daily fee, pass or inclusive, and the ceiling.
- Trips past a few days: price a local data eSIM against the daily fees — the pairing usually wins.
- Turn off auto-download and cloud backup over mobile data.
- Data OFF on ferries and cruise ships — maritime satellite rates answer to no cap.

The one figure to know
Your plan's overseas fair-use ceiling. Cross it and per-GB billing begins, cap or no cap warnings depending on settings. It lives on one screen of your network app — read it in the departure lounge if you must, but read it.
