iPhone deals — timing the Apple cycle

Apple's calendar is the most predictable in tech. Use it, and the outgoing-model window, instead of chasing launch-day hype.

Section 01

The September mechanism

New iPhones arrive each September. The launch model rarely discounts before Black Friday — but the outgoing generation drops within weeks of the announcement, and that window is the reliable sweet spot: near-identical hardware, meaningfully smaller totals.

Section 02

The marking scheme

Before any iPhone contract
  1. Run the total-cost test from the phone-deals page — upfront plus every month versus outright-plus-SIM.
  2. Choose storage deliberately: photos and video swell; the step up often outlasts the phone.
  3. Trade-in: Apple's own quote versus one recycler, minimum.
  4. eSIM-only models travel best paired with a cheap local data eSIM — see the eSIM page.
  5. Check the seller's returns window and whether the handset is UK-stock and unlocked.
Section 03

Black Friday & January, honestly

Both seasons are richer in airtime (bigger allowances for the same money) than in hardware cuts. The same four-step total-cost test separates a genuine improvement from a re-dressed one.
